The Albertina was founded by Duke Albert Kasimir of Sachsen-Teschen in 1776. A statue of him on horseback stands on the ramp of the Albertina. The graphic collection belongs to the leading collections of its kind worldwide. It comprises around 44,000 drawings and 1.5 million prints. Alongside works from Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Raffael, Peter Paul Rubens and Rembrandt, the Albertina possesses a unique portfolio of drawings by Albrecht Dürer, including “The Field Rabbit”, “The Praying Hands”, and “Melancholy”. Other 20th century works include those from Klimt and Schiele.
