The Wienzeile (Vienna Row) is characterised by Otto Wagner’s Art Nouveau (or “Jugenstil”) buildings (1898/99) in the upper Naschmarkt segment.

They are considered as the decisive break with historicism in Wagner’s work. Instead of historicist ornamentation, everything is kept intentionally two-dimensional. Majolica House on Linke Wienzeile 40: the facade is panelled with glazed majolica panels from the Wienerberger company. The floral ornamentation is by Alois Ludwig.

Linke Wienzeile 38 is famous for its spectacular corner construction in the form of a quadrant. The house is overlaid with golden ornamentation by Koloman Moser.
Köstlergasse 3 is the plainest of this group of houses and was at times inhabited by Wagner hmself..
